Joe Biden thinks he can just have Donald Trump disqualified from the next general election under the 14th AQmendment to the US Constitution. He says Trump’s “obvious attempt at a coup” equals insurrection, which would disqualify him if it was true.
If it was true being a big issue. As of yet, Trump hasn’t been indicted, much less convicted, of seditious conspiracy to overthrow the US government for his actions leading up to and including January 6, 2021.
“There’s a pretty large legal gap there,” said Justice Department spokesman Joe Barron, “while it seems like he’s probably going to be indicted with a mountain of evidence against him, can they get a conviction before the primary?”
Our legal experts don’t think so. But, a conviction shortly thereafter could be problematic, as a person in jail for sedition may end up winning the 2024 election.
“That’s why we need him disqualified now,” said Biden, “and I’m calling in the FEC to do its job.”
The FEC says has “no jurisdiction” over who runs for what office in every state but will try its darndest to comply.
Alabama and Tennessee have already registered Trump, as well as his electors in the event of another stolen election. God Bless America.
