The “Who’s the Boss” reboot on NBC will go forward…without one of its star characters. Alyssa Milano, who played Tony Danza’s daughter Samantha, will be replaced by someone “less woke,” according to sources. Danza, the show’s executive producer, axed the progressive actress personally, calling her politics a “liability to the true fans of the show.”
The original show ran as a primetime sitcom in the early 1980s putting Milano squarely on every Gen X male’s laminated “free pass’ Card. Unfortunately, those days are over, and Danza, a solid Baby Boomer, is looking for the show to head in a more conservative direction. “We’re not gonna ruin it like they did with “The Connors,” said Danza, “Alyssa is entitled to her wokeness, just not on my set.”
Milano took to Twitter to cry again, as seems to be the norm for her. gathering a ton of support from her fans. The next step, she said, is to check into a closed unit somewhere and work on her.
As for the role of Sam, is there anyone who can pull off that smile and make a generation fall in love with her the way Milano did? Kelly Bundy was in the early running but nobody could see her as a brunette, so all eyes move now to Brenda from Las Vegas. would that give us a Molly Sims cameo? Who knows?
“We’re considering going with a granddaughter and a Roseanne-like death story for Sam.” said Joe Barron, the show’s lead writer, “We’re thing maybe Hailee Steinfeld in case we need someone who can sing. That also opens up channels to a montage with Anna Kendrick.
All-in-all, it doesn’t seem like the show will need Alyssa Milano at all. Oh well. Go woke go broke.
