Even as Disney reels from its latest woke casting error in the new “Little Mermaid” controversy, it still tends to make buckets of money off of Its Marvel Comics line of properties.   But will viewers be willing to “sink their teeth” into this next one?

The next hero on the premiere list is a familiar face – or was.  Actor Wesley Snipes knocked it out of the cemetery last time with his “Blade” franchise during the late 90s and early 2000’s.  His half-vampire vampire hunter filled theaters to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Guess where all that money went? Puff puff puff.

Now “Elementary” and “Kill Bill” star Lucy Liu will be stepping into the lead fangs, and it’s causing no end of controversy.  Some samples from Facebook groups:

“Lucy Liu is Asian and a girl.  Blade is a proud and tough black man.  How’s this gonna work?  Does she know Kung-Chew?”   –  Joe Barron

“Konichiwa vampires!  Me stake you long time!  Ha ha!  Me so ho-ooo-ooo-nay!”  –   Steven Ashburger

“Who does her nails?  She looks very good.  I mean, except for the pinched face and decidedly yellowish features.  Is this an Anime?”   –   Melissa Southard

Liu’s new Blade will be joining the Marvel Universe proper in 2023 with the debut of her feature film Blade : You Want Duck Sauce With That? premiering in May.
